Does your pet have what it takes to be a good travel companion? Is he healthy, relatively calm, and able to adapt to different situations, including different weather conditions? Does your pet enjoy being around people? Is your pet easy to transport? Most importantly, will your pet enjoy accompanying you on a trip?
Dogs are the most common traveling animals. As a rule, dogs are sociable, trainable, and adaptable. Very large dogs may be harder to transport, but people have successfully traveled with Great Danes and similar breeds. To be good travelers, dogs should be healthy, trained to walk on a leash and obey simple commands, housebroken, not prone to prolonged barking or aggressive behavior, and not upset by strangers or unfamiliar surroundings. There are many kinds of disabilities, and one e-book can’t cover everything that individuals with specific limitations will need to watch for as they travel. In the United States, disabled persons are entitled to rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that may not apply in other countries.
Since my experience is with mobility impairments, which affect millions of handicapped people, many of my examples apply to these kinds of disabilities. However, if you have another type of handicap or live in another part of the world, you will still find helpful advice to make your travels enjoyable, comfortable, and safe — even if you have a disability.
